‘Music & You’ Finale Concert for Hundreds of Elementary School Students

The Palm Beach Pops Hosts ‘Music & You’ Finale Concert for Hundreds of Elementary School Students from Boynton Beach, Greenacres and Lake Worth

Concert was held on October 30 at the Duncan Theatre

(Palm Beach Gardens, FL – November __, 2015) Jon Lappin, President of The Palm Beach Pops, today announced that South Florida’s most loved pops orchestra has completed this year’s Music & You In-School Youth Education Program for Palm Beach County underserved school districts.

Following four weeks of in-school sessions – which included lessons from each section of the orchestra (brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion) – hundreds of participating students attended the Finale Concert on October 30 at the Duncan Theatre in Lake Worth. The students were from Cholee Lake Elementary School and Liberty Park Elementary School in Greenacres, Citrus Cove Elementary School in Boynton Beach and Indian Pines Elementary School in Lake Worth. Kyle Tintle, Director of Community Relations & Special Events for The Palm Beach Pops, emceed the Finale Concert.

“The finale Concert is always a major event because all of the young students, who spent the previous month studying the importance of the rudiments of music, have the opportunity to actually experience a live orchestral concert that wraps up all of the concepts that were taught in the schools,” says Lappin. “The attending children, parents and teachers all had an amazing time at the concert, and we have since received hundreds of hand-written thank you cards from the children.”

Lappin went on to praise the leaders at each of the schools for making possible this successful program: principal Dr. Marline Campbell and music teacher Denise Dumala at Cholee Lake Elementary School; principal Jill Robinson and music teacher Christine Proefrock from Indian Pines Elementary School; principal Laura Green and music teacher Mike Norman from Citrus Cove Elementary School; and principal Joseph Schneider and music teacher Judy Christodoulides from Liberty Park Elementary School.

The Palm Beach Pops bussed all of the students to the venue for concert at no cost to the schools or taxpayers.

About the Music & You In-School Youth Education Program:

The Music & You Program correlates music with social studies, literature, character education science and math.  It enables students to develop an understanding of the rudiments of melody, harmony and rhythm by listening to a variety of music, from the classics to the Great American Songbook, including Bach, Mozart, Gershwin, Duke Ellington and more – all of which conveys to students how the history of American music relates to modern musical genres. In fact, all participating students are tested both before and after the Music & You program – before, to gauge their base line of knowledge; and after, to measure learning results.  So far, nearly 90,000 local school children have already attended and actively participated in these program concerts.
